OPR to hold Second Training Webinar for Local Authority Elected Members

The Office of the Planning Regulator (OPR) in conjunction with the Association of Irish Local Government (AILG) is holding an online planning training webinar for local authority elected members on Friday, 18th September from 10am-11:30 am.

The webinar entitled “Guidance for Councillors on the Initial Stages of Preparing Development Plans and their Core Strategies” will cover two topics:

  • The Development Plan: Initial Stages in Development Plan Preparation (including case studies)
  • The Core Strategy: Purpose and Implications for the wider Development Plan including Linkages to the Housing Strategy

The training will outline the key early stages in the plan-making process and will emphasise the initial steps required when preparing a plan including the preparatory background work prior to the initiation of the review process; the Issues Papers; and best practice in citizen and stakeholder engagement. Relevant case studies will be presented to give attendees a practical insight into this important phase in the making of a Development Plan.

The role of the Core Strategy will also be examined and the wider strategic context for plan-making. The training will explore the role of the Development Plan in coordinating and integrating wider public and private investment.  Finally, the linkages between the Core Strategy and the Housing Strategy will be considered and recent legal developments will be examined.

The presentations will be delivered by the Planning Regulator, Niall Cussen and the Deputy Planning Regulator, Anne Marie O’Connor.

To attend, please register by emailing info@ailg.ie. Early registration is recommended.

This is the fourth planning training event organised by the AILG and the OPR. Events were previously held in Dundalk and Limerick in October 2019, Cavan and Waterford in February 2020 and an online training webinar was hosted in July 2020.
