OPR to hold training webinar for local authority members

The Office of the Planning Regulator (OPR) in conjunction with the Association of Irish Local Government (AILG) is holding an online training webinar for local authority members on Friday, 24 July from 10am-11:30 am.

The webinar entitled “Planning and the Local Elected Member” will cover two topics:

  • An overview of planning in Ireland and the functions of officials and elected members.
  • The development plan and the role of the elected member.

The Planning Regulator, Niall Cussen and the Deputy Planning Regulator, Anne Marie O’Connor will deliver the training which will be followed by a Questions and Answers session.

The training will give an overview of the planning process, outline the specific roles of local authority members, elaborate on the responsibilities of elected members in the plan-making process, detail the timelines and procedural aspects of making a development plan and outline responsibilities relating to consultation and lobbying.

The purpose of the training is to provide elected members with enhanced knowledge of the planning process, reaffirming their roles and responsibilities within the planning system and their functions in relation to ensuring proper planning and sustainable development.
